Holiday Envelope Campaign Numbers In

Lansing, Michigan – March 14, 2012 –Once again the people of our community have affirmed their unwavering support of the mission of the Greater Lansing Food Bank by donating more than $970,000 through the annual holiday Envelope Campaign to feed the hungry in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. This support again guarantees that the Greater Lansing Food Bank will have a positive impact on the ravages of hunger in our community.

Greater Lansing Food Bank Announces Appointment of New Directors

Lansing, Michigan – March 14, 2012 – Mike Busch, Chair of the Greater Lansing Food Bank Board of Directors, announced the appointment of these new directors to the organization’s Board:

  • Rose Tantraphol is a communications strategist and social media consultant at Martin Waymire Advocacy Communications. Rose also teaches yoga in the greater Lansing area.
  • Michael Dean is a partner in the Warmels & Comstock CPA Firm, focusing on tax planning for businesses and their owners/officers. Mike has over eight years of experience helping Michigan companies plan for and manage their tax compliance function.
  • David Mulder is the Director of Lansing Distribution for Meijer Inc. Dave is responsible for the operation of the five Lansing area distribution centers.
  • Amber Terakedis is a Senior Financial Planner with Plante Moran Financial Advisors. She joined the firm in 2008 with over four years of experience within the financial planning industry. Amber specializes in wealth management, estate settlements and retirement plans.
  • Lupe Izzo is a long time Lansing area resident who has volunteered her time and energies to supporting area causes including Sparrow Health System, MSU Safe house, Cristo Rey, Ele’s Place, Volunteers of America and more.

Each of the new Board members has been appointed to a 3 year term.

Map the Meal Gap

Feeding America, a national food bank partner, undertook a project called Map the Meal Gap. They analyzed hunger data in all counties across the United States and have placed it in a large interactive map for ease of use. Check out where Michigan and Lansing rank in terms of food security. A phenomenal piece of work, it is worth checking out, at Map The Meal Gap.

   

GLFB, MMFB to Combine Organizations to Form One Food Bank

Lansing, Michigan – October 27, 2011 – In what some are calling an early holiday season gift to the community,  the Board of the American Red Cross, Mid-Michigan Chapter, which operates the Mid -Michigan Food Bank (MMFB) and the Board of the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) announced today that the two organizations will be combining operations effective July 1, 2012. Lee Hendrickson, Board Chair of the American Red Cross, parent organization of the MMFB, and Mike Busch, Board Chair of the GLFB, made the announcement this morning at a press conference held at the offices of the Capital Region Community Foundation, an organization which has provided financial support to both area food banks.
