LANSING, Mich. — The Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) today unveiled its new logo as part of a reintroduction to the community following its consolidation with the Mid-Michigan Food Bank. The unification, which became effective July 1, was a year in the making and resulted in creating the area’s largest emergency food assistance organization, with services that also encompass sustainability initiatives such as a community garden program (Garden Project) and food rescue program (Food Movers).

The new consolidated food bank remains the Greater Lansing Food Bank in name, and features a new logo and an expanded mission focused on more efficiently and compassionately feeding those in need in the seven counties of Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, Gratiot, Clare and Isabella, with an ultimate goal of reducing food costs while increasing the supply.

Greater Lansing Food Bank, Mid-Michigan Food Bank Unify Operations

After nearly a year of discussions and plans, as of July 1, 2012, the Mid Michigan Food Bank and the Greater Lansing Food Bank officially became one unified organization focused on efficiently and compassionately feeding those in need in the 7 counties of Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, Gratiot, Clare and Isabella. This new consolidated food bank will remain the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
To all those who have supported either…or both organizations, thank you. Your ongoing support is more important now than ever. To those who have been helped by either organization, it is our pledge to remain focused on providing food to those in need.
Although the summer months will be a time of transition and learning for all of us, we also see this as a time of opportunity. We look forward to working with our partners of the past, and developing new and innovative relationships moving forward. We look forward to your input, observations and ideas.

What does this merger mean? Frequently Asked Questions

What led to this consolidation?

For more than 20 years, there have been two food banks operating in the Greater Lansing Area. Although the two worked together in many ways, this led to confusion in the community and unnecessary duplications of efforts in a number of areas. The Boards of the two organizations, listening to community leaders, realized that combining these services could lead to a number of efficiencies in the focus to feed those in need in our community. Besides, it just made sense and the timing seemed to be right.

What is the name of the new food bank?

The new food bank is the Greater Lansing Food Bank, the same organization that has served the people of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties for more than 30 years.

Map the Meal Gap

Feeding America, a national food bank partner, undertook a project called Map the Meal Gap. They analyzed hunger data in all counties across the United States and have placed it in a large interactive map for ease of use. Check out where Michigan and Lansing rank in terms of food security. Greater Lansing Food Bank Announces Appointment of New Directors

Lansing, Michigan – March 14, 2012 – Mike Busch, Chair of the Greater Lansing Food Bank Board of Directors, announced the appointment of these new directors to the organization’s Board:

Rose Tantraphol is a communications strategist and social media consultant at Martin Waymire Advocacy Communications. Rose also teaches yoga in the greater Lansing area.
Michael Dean is a partner in the Warmels & Comstock CPA Firm, focusing on tax planning for businesses and their owners/officers. Mike has over eight years of experience helping Michigan companies plan for and manage their tax compliance function.
David Mulder is the Director of Lansing Distribution for Meijer Inc. Dave is responsible for the operation of the five Lansing area distribution centers.
Amber Terakedis is a Senior Financial Planner with Plante Moran Financial Advisors. She joined the firm in 2008 with over four years of experience within the financial planning industry. Amber specializes in wealth management, estate settlements and retirement plans.
Lupe Izzo is a long time Lansing area resident who has volunteered her time and energies to supporting area causes including Sparrow Health System, MSU Safe house, Cristo Rey, Ele’s Place, Volunteers of America and more.

Each of the new Board members has been appointed to a 3 year term.
