Want to help harvest?

The Greater Lansing Food Bank administers a field gleaning program in the Lansing area. Fresh produce, which would otherwise go to waste, is harvested by volunteers to help feed the hungry. The GLFB organizes crews of volunteers to harvest crops at the request of area growers. The food is then distributed by staff to food pantries, human service organizations, residents of subsidized housing and other in need.

Through the gleaning program, GLFB harvests and distributes 250,000+ lbs of food each year. 

HOW MUCH FOOD DO WE RESCUE?

We've been at it since 1983--since then we've harvested well over 5 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Here's a sample of our stats from recent years...

2011: over 260,000 pounds of food!
2010: over 220,000 pounds of food.
2009: over 340,000 pounds of food.
2008: over 280,000 pounds of food.
2007: over 255,000 pounds of food.
