Do you…
We facilitate a network of community gardens throughout Ingahm, Eaton and Clinton Counties. Many gardens are affiliated with and administered by strong organizational parteners: schools, social clubs, churches, neighborhood groups, and more. Other gardens are subdivided into plots which are available to general public--each gardener is assigned a specific plot. It is the gardener’s responsibility to plant, weed, water, harvest and clean up the assigned plot. All vegetables grown in the plot are yours to eat and enjoy — or to share with your family, friends and neighbors.
Remember, the first part of community gardening is COMMUNITY! Gardeners are required to jointly maintain all common areas, paths, and borders of their garden. In addition, gardeners are expected to participate in group workdays, including their garden’s opening in spring.
To sign up for a community garden, submit a registration. Registration will be available late February/earl March 2010. Check this site, or, to recieve an email or paper copy, let us know you're interested and we'll put you on our mailing list. Gardeners registered in 2009 will recieve a 2010 registration automatically, but please let us know if you prefer to recieve electronic versions only--this helps us save printing and mailing costs, as well as paper resources.
Many garden resources are available through The Garden Project: training, technical assistance, seeds, plants, tool library and more. We also serve as a hub for gardeners to access other community resources, and have compiled many of these opportunities into our Lansing Area Resource Guide. Registered gardeners recieve Garden Notes, our seasonal newsletter with gardening advice, recipes, events and more! View back issues of Garden Notes here.
