Thanks to the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation! The money was raised during the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation’s 2009 Charity Golf Outing this fall at Timber Ridge Golf Course.  The funds will help the GLFB purchase a much-needed food delivery truck to improve our services.

“We are honored to assist the work of the Greater Lansing Food Bank,” says Joe Wald of the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation.  “It is especially important in these difficult economic times to support such critical programs.”

“The demand for our services continues to grow,” explains Terry Link, executive director of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.  “The Rotary gift will go a long way to support our mission to make certain that no one goes hungry.”

The food bank provided 2 million pounds of food worth more than $2.2 million last year to Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. A new vehicle would allow Food Movers to “rescue” perishable food from restaurants, businesses and dormitories and deliver it to human service agencies, community kitchens, subsidized housing shelters and other programs more effectively.

Food Movers also operates five open-food distribution sites through the Neighborhood Partnership Program in Lansing-area neighborhoods, which provides additional rescued or donated food on a monthly or biweekly schedule.  The new vehicle will replace a 16-year-old truck, which will enable more food to be rescued and delivered.

The Rotary Club of Lansing is a service organization of more than 250 business leaders from the Lansing area.  It is part of Rotary International, the world’s oldest service club organization, comprised of more than 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries. Rotarians form a global network of 1.2 million members.  The Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation provides grant support to both local and international causes consistent with the overall theme of Rotary, “service above self.”
